1 Junior Researcher position available on fMRI analysis

Epileptic activities (EA) are frequently observed in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and are associated with accelerated disease progression. These events, often subclinical and predominantly occurring during sleep, remain difficult to detect with current clinical tools. This project aims to elucidate the mechanisms linking EA and AD progression and to develop improved methodologies for their detection and characterization.

The Junior Scientist will work with an existing datasets of AD patients, investigating whether fMRI-based measures can serve as proxy indicators of network hyperexcitability.

The position is placed within the Semantic Memory Lab (Genzel lab, www.genzellab.com) at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour in Nijmegen, and thus is embedded in a basic mechanistic memory lab with a direct translational approach and a strong computational interest. This position is funded through a cross-border grant by the associations Alzheimer Nederland (Nl) and Vaincre Alzheimer (Fr).

We are looking for a motivated candidate with a strong interest in translational neuroscience and neuroimaging for a 16-month contract at 1 FTE starting in January 2026. The successful applicant will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists to advance our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease mechanisms.

We Are Looking For

·         MSc degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Science, or a related discipline.

·         Experience in neuroimaging. Functional MRI analysis experience is a plus.

·         Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or R for data analysis.

·         Excellent English communication skills and organizational skills.
